Own a Kia or Hyundai Vehicle? You’ve Probably Seen a Fluctuation on Your Auto Insurance Rate.

Did you know in 2023, Kia and Hyundai vehicle models were stolen at an alarming rate (see chart below).  The companies dominated (6) of the top ten spots.

At the Eric L. Ash Insurance Agency, as an insurance broker, we pride ourselves in educating consumers about what’s happening in the insurance industry.  In this post, we’d like to address the fluctuation of insurance rates as related to the following model year vehicles:

2011-2021 Kia Forte, Optima, Sportage, Soul, Sorento, Rio and Sedona

2015-2021 Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, Tucson, Santa Fe, Accent, Kona, Veloster, Genesis, Palisade and Venue

Due to the increased risk of theft of these specific years and makes of Hyundai and Kia vehicles, many insurance carriers are no longer providing coverage or restricting the coverage to liability only.  These restrictions are in place regardless of having the immobilizer installed through the recall process.  As an insurance broker, we found that there are certain insurance companies that can offer coverage for these models; please reach out to us to see what we can do to help you with your Hyundai or Kia.
